  • Wow...the implications boggle the mind. Just the fuel production part of what he's saying has massive possibilities.

  • I've read several of Stamets books, they convinced me that mushroom cultivation needs to be a part of every community. I have a friend that manages a huge mushroom farm in PA, it is cool stuff. Not too complicated to do on a scale to support a small community. Mushrooms, cabbage and eggs- can survive off of that forever.

  • I've recently ordered some Elm Oyster mycelium from Bemushroomed (http://www.bemushroomed.com/index.php ), a free, peer-to-peer mushroom spore and spawn exchange. Some people report that growing this in vegetable beds doubles the yield of your vegetables, so I'm gonna have a shot at that.

If mushrooms can double vegetable yields, that makes 7 ways they can save the world!

  • I grow oyster mushrooms here on corn stover (chopped up corn stalks). They produce really well, and the leftover substrate is excellent feed for animals. My pigs and chickens love it!
