The exact book and author aren't too important because they are mostly all the same. Just find a pdf or get one from your local library.

Another key thing you'll need to know is how to do basic programming to plot equations or numerically model things. I'd suggest Sage or just ipython/numpy/scipy/matplotlib installed on your local machine. At school, students commonly use Matlab. You can also use a graphing calculator.
