Russ Introduction
  • Hi I'm Russ,

Heard about the Open Source Ecology experiment via a friend. Although it's all very fascinating, I'm a "see a tool, master it, use it" guy. What really intrigued me was the potential for self-sufficiency: tractor, torch table, etc. You really got my attention! Why?

I'm Gen. Mgr. of a 540 acre Farm Cooperative in British Columbia. Our goal is to be food self-sufficient, first. We have skilled gardeners in place and as well as residential and commercial construction experience amongst our members. In addition to being dedicated to organic farming I've acquired a MSc in Architecture along the way. We are attempting to be an Ecovillage through the Ecovillage Network of Canada. I'm the current national President. I see OSE as a way to achieve our goals more completely, as well as ensuring we will be able to replicate our tools!

We have a lot of land, some skills, and are looking for a suitable way to collaborate. I've read the Blog, reviewed the Wiki, and watched all the videos. Your public presentation is a bit of a labyrinth. My sense is you are currently looking for more talent for your design team and fund raising. Not sure I have much to offer in those categories. Let me know how and when I can help. Thanks!

  • Hey Russ. We're in the same neck of the woods. We should talk one of these days. I know of your Ecovillage but have never explored any deeper.

    Cheers,

  • what an interesting coincidence that I find 2 other BC folks on here :) I hope I get the opportunity to come see your farm Coop as it sounds pretty stellar.
