    http://gekgasifier.com/ is a open source biomass gasifier to power vehicles and generators. 

    They are well along in their project with working 20kw wood powered generators, and open source DXF files.

    Their next stage which they are working on is lab scale production of liquid fuel from biomass.  Their method does not use a fermentation process but rather a gasification process followed by a lab scale catalytic convertor to make diesel, gasoline, methanol, and other long chain hydrocarbons.  The prototype has been built and uses arduino processors to manage the reaction.
