Humbled and Amazed
  • I received text last Tuesday pointing me to the TED.com talk Marcin gave.

Since then, I have thought about little else than OSE.

I have studied and experimented with community, resiliency and independence for most of my adult life and I find the potential of OSE to be amazing.

I have an education degree from University of Akron in Ohio, but am not a big fan of the public school system, so I am not teaching. I taught at camps for a while, but felt they did not contain much in the way of the future.

I will probably post more as time progresses, imagining that other's care to read about me as much as I like to write about me.

For the reader that does want to do something for me I have a couple questions:

1- If I want to get more involved with OSE, what should I do?
2- What can I do for you?

  • I once heard that the worst thing you can do to a child is hand them three ice cream cones on a sunny day.

I feel like a young child on the verge of an easter egg hunt. I know that I want to run off and do something, but I am not 100% sure what yet, or even what direction to head. This guy needs a nudge.

  • What are your skills? What do you love to do? Can you build things with your hands? Can you co-ordinate teams of people? Do you have any social connections that might be valuable to us? Venture capitalists, engineers, landowners, academics?

For one thing, we could sure use some help tidying up the wiki right now. See http://openfarmtech.org/wiki/Current_tasks for our current to-do list. Within the wiki, our priority is to get the information on the CEB Press at http://openfarmtech.org/wiki/CEB_Press arranged according to the plans at http://openfarmtech.org/wiki/Product_Template

  • @Conor, as people post stuff, I will do my best to respond to them in detail.

I am in the process of sorting out my skills to post on the http://openfarmtech.org/wiki/Adam_Haynes in more detail.

Most of my skills are academic, I am an educator. However, I also raise chickens and garden, having built my coop and planned my garden. I do not have much mechanical expertise at the moment, but I am capable of developing it. I have coordination and leadership experience.

I am a blue-collar guy from the suburbs of Cleveland, so I've no financial network at present.

I am in the process of looking into meeting the need for a credible fundraising solution, particularly focusing on a clear presentation of the mission and significance.

  • Follow up: I've begun talking with Gaia University about simultaneous participation in OSE and a pursuit of a Master's Degree.

  • Ha! That's very awesome. Let me know how that goes. With your experience, I assume you'd be working on developing a curriculum for OSE or something? I am also interested in working on a structure for a curriculum, perhaps we could collaborate.
